Our History

North Bristol Running Group (NBRG) was brought into being in November 2013 by a small group of friends who were running together on a regular basis in the Bradley Stoke area. They decided to invite running pals to join them via a Facebook page and chose the name. Steadily the membership of the group grew as it began to attract new members. By offering 8 week Beginner Courses each year, the group expanded further to become the diverse family of runners, at all levels of ability, that it is today.

The approach remains that NBRG is a group of friends supporting each other to run, Membership is free and we remain a Group rather than a Club, we’ve become a well established part of the North Bristol community and the local running scene. We regularly support local parkrun events and provide Pacers and Marshals at the annual Bristol 10K/Half Marathon event. We also host an annual Elf run to raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation.

The NBRG family is able to offer runs at different paces, of different distances and on a number of different days during the week. Alan Wilcox, one of the original founders, continues to lead NBRG with the help and support of a number of key members.
